The Expansionist Circle of Ethics with Aldo Leopold

I’d like to try something different this blog: a vlog. I recorded this for my university class, but it applies directly to the subject of messy ethics: to whom do we grant universal [ethical] consideration? On what basis? How do we discern among competing considerations? Take a look and let me know your thoughts. ~Simon

  1. I really like the vblog, hope you’ll do more in this format.

What will it take for society to give universal consideration to all humans, non humans, and all that is found on earth? I know we’ve come a long way, but I think we still have a very long way to go.

In order to move out of our anthropocentric malaise, we need to promote more and more an ethic that all life on this planet is best perceived as a communion of subjects, each with rights that need to be honoured and respected.
Of course, flowers, but also chili peppers, pumpkins, thistles, ants, beetles and wasps matter, Black lives matter, Indigenous peoples matter, trees matter, fish, dogs, cats, birds and butterflies matter, rivers and oceans matter, soil matters, glaciers matter, air matters…..all life matters!
